Welcome to Omni-Integration!

We live in an increasingly interconnected and complex world.

Within this context, many people find themselves choosing between two seemingly opposite orientations: exploring the relative realm of duality or resting in the absolute of non-duality. One orientation investigates the landscape of experience, personal growth, professional development, expanded abilities, and social engagement. The other involves the recognition that there is fundamentally no separation between subject and object, no difference to find, only reality as it is, a recognition that itself dissolves into no need to defend any single truth.

Omni-Integration is an approach that considers both duality and non-duality with their multiple dimensions, recognizing that true transformative development unfolds across numerous interdependent trajectories. For Omni-Integration, the development and possibilities for qualification are never fully completed, especially if the ethical process is not properly taken cared of together with the spiritual awakening progression.

This framework embraces the apparent paradox, honoring the journey of exploration and the destination of recognition, the process of integration and the realization that reality was never separate in the first place. Yet, it goes further. It does not deny human experience while, at the same time, it helps reduce fixations on either side.

Ultimately, the goal is a life of genuine fulfillment and continuous growth that naturally contributes to the flourishing of all.

Awakening is a fundamental shift in the way one views and perceives oneself, others, the world, and reality.

Typically, when Awakening happens, there is a visceral recognition about the indivisible nature of reality. This initial shift is enduring rather than temporary, and it usually opens a developmental process where many other shifts occur, transforming one's entire belief system.

Spiritual Awakening

Often described through the lens of non-duality, spiritual Awakening is the recognition of the fundamental indivisibility between subject and object.

While spiritual Awakening includes many passing phenomena and states of consciousness, it is not a single peak experience that fades away. Rather, each shift brings a new way of perceiving the self, identity, relationships, the world, and reality itself, a transformation that persists until the next permanent shift occurs.

Even though spiritual Awakening is one of the most important kinds of Awakening, there are many other correlated types. These include:

  1. Ethical - Realization of the underlying inseparability between personal actions and their effects on the whole.

  2. Political or Social - Realization of how political and social systems are fundamentally indivisible from humans.

  3. Ecological - Realization of the inherent inseparability between beings and nature/environment.

  4. Psychological - Realization of the indivisibility of the mind and its psychological layers with how reality is constructed and perceived.

  5. Intellectual or Paradigmatic - Realization of the essential inseparability between knower and known, and how knowledge is build.

  6. Somatic - Realization of the intrinsic indivisibility between the body with the self, the world, and the whole.

When spiritual Awakening takes place, these other kinds of Awakenings typically begin to also develop or deepen in an interdependent way. While the core shift continues to be related to the relationship between subject and object, and to the inseparability of fundamental reality, spiritual Awakening commonly has significant impact on psychological, political, social, ecological, somatic, and ethical views and behavior. In other words, spiritual Awakening transforms one's personal paradigm and influences all other kinds of Awakenings to varying degrees.

Omni-Integration considers the totality of all of these Awakenings that unfold interdependently. In other words, it is a framework that recognizes these other types of developments, integrating them into a more coherent whole. When all of these trajectories coalesce more deeply, there is a sense of naturalness, where all the facets work harmoniously as one.

Awakenings

Spiritual Awakening is a multifaceted process where multiple dimensions (omnidimensionality) can be accessed, explored, and integrated along the way.

Basic Polarity

Omni-Integration considers the idea of a non-hierarchical basic polarity, which could be seen as the most fundamental law or foundation of reality. It is usually called by Taoists the yin and yang, and it can be perceived in all levels of manifestation, from the micro to the macro.

This basic polarity has been conceptualized in numerous different ways by all fields of knowledge, and each points to this fundamental reality. For instance:

Physics: In quantum physics, at a micro level, there is the polarity of a particle and a wave. At a macro level, the universe expands and contracts.
Culture: In works of fiction, there is the archetype of good and evil, the Jedi and the Sith (Star Wars), light and dark, and so on.
Religion: in Christianity, for example, there is the polarity of God and the Devil. In Hinduism, there is Shiva and Shakti.
Biology: We all breathe, if we are alive. Therefore, there is always, 24/7, the movement of inhaling and exhaling, or the polarity of contraction and expansion.
Paradigms: In terms of paradigms, there is the dual and non-dual frameworks to understand and perceive reality, or the subject and object.

Associated terms: the human and the divine, existence and non-existence, form and formlessness, fullness and emptiness, masculine and feminine, self and no-self, creation and destruction, the physical and on-physical realms, the above and the below, etc.

Dimensions of Spiritual Awakening

Core Dimensions

The core and associated dimensions of awakening stem from the basic polarity presented above.

Different traditions and frameworks use different names for these dimensions, but they point to the same element or category of phenomena.

  • Awareness — The Witness / The Observer

  • Existence — Form / Fullness / Unity / Oneness

  • Non-Existence — Formlessness / Emptiness / Nothingness / Voidness

  • Energy — Chi / Prana / Kundalini / Chakras / The Energetic Body / Meridians / Nadis / Energosoma

  • Primordial Force and Potentiality — Pure or Primary Consciousness / Nibbana / The Tao / Rigpa / The Source / Ground of Being / The Dharmakaya

  • The Mind — Thoughts and Emotions / Conditioning / The Subconscious and the Unconscious / Psyche / The Mental and Emotional Bodies / Mentalsoma and Psychosoma

Associated Dimensions

  • Physical Life — The Physical body / Soma / The Physical World, the Cosmos, and the Universe

  • Expanded Subtle Abilities — Psychic abilities / Parapsychism

  • Crises — Dark Nights of the Soul / Spiritual Emergencies / Shadow / Trauma Processing

These dimensions unfold differently for different people. Some of them become axes of development, following a long deepening process. Others are related to fundamental pivotal shifts, but do not necessarily develop into something more or even come back, and others are present sometimes and are secondary.

More importantly, in the first portion of the progression of Spiritual Awakening (see more about portions in the model below), there is no specific order for them to occur, even though there is a higher probability for some of them to occur earlier and others later. The personalized nature of the process is most visible at the individual level. At a broader level, it is possible to recognize a common developmental pattern among different people.

That means your Awakening process is personalized to you.

The idea is recognizing these different dimensions as they emerge, exploring them and integrating them as a coherent whole.

Spiritual Awakening can be seen and understood from multiple angles and perspectives. It has a processual nature and can also be divided into phases.

For some, the process is gradual and distinctions are less prominent. For others, there are shifts that radically change everything, with a feeling of before and after. And within that distribution, others feel that sometimes there are important watershed moments, and there are other periods where change is more incremental.

Regardless of the way the process unfolds for you, it is possible to draw a progression at a broad level.

  • FIRST PORTION OF THE PROGRESSION

    DECONSTRUCTION

The deconstructive portion of the process starts with the first glimpses of Awakening leading to the initial Awakening, or the first permanent shift. It is also when core dimensions are accessed and explored sequentially. People can oscillate between dimensions, experience them one at a time for varying durations, or engage with anywhere from one to several core dimensions. In this portion of the process, when someone is experiencing one core dimension, they typically are not fully experiencing others simultaneously. There can be many shifts, and there is a progressive deconstruction of the sense of self, identity, time and space, fixations, perceptual filters, and so on.

This portion of the process can follow a pattern that goes from Actuality to Potentiality to Non-Existence. Actuality refers to the recognition that there is only this actual moment, or what is more commonly known as "now." It involves the realization that it is the mind that goes into past memories, creating a sense of past, or projects a possible future. When time and space deconstruct even more, they become highly flexible, providing access to different timelines or to potentialities that could exist or happen (Potentiality). In the end spectrum of this process, Non-Existence becomes all-encompassing, with all phenomena being essentially empty or absent.

    TOTALITY
However, what becomes the final stage of this portion is the realization of Totality. It's the recognition, experientially, that all of those previous layers (Actuality, Potentiality, and Non-Existence) are still present and can be observed, witnessed, and engaged with from a new meta-perspective. That gives a profound feeling of equanimity. Whatever is happening in those layers of reality, nothing affects you because there is no longer a you to be affected.

  • TIPPING POINT

    PRIMORDIALITY

This tipping point involves the discovery of a primordial, foundational reality or what it feels like to be the source of all dimensions. The feeling of having finally found what is truly real is common. Many recognize the Primordial as the source that gives rise to a Basic Polarity. Soon, there is also the realization that these two sides are fundamentally not different from each other. These discoveries are pivotal moments in the process, shifting the progression into a more reconstructive portion.

  • SECOND PORTION OF THE PROGRESSION

    OMNIDIMENSIONALITY / RECONSTRUCTION

The reconstructive portion of the process involves the return of everything previously thought to be gone, but in a less fixated way. One of the main characteristics of this portion is that the experience of multiple dimensions occurs concurrently. It may feel paradoxical and unsettling in the beginning, but it becomes a period of playful exploration, where every layer of reality is available at all times. Omnidimensionality (aka Omni), feels, to many, magic and wondrous.

    POST-OMNIDIMENSIONALITY / CONSOLIDATION
Over time, these dimensions integrate and coalesce into an undivided, seamless reality. The relationship between subject and object fully collapses. Since reality is singular, at the far end of this period, omnidimensionality fades, bringing, for many, a sense of loss. This is a period of Post-Omnidimensionality (aka Post-Omni or simply Post). Sooner or later, as in previous phases of the progression, that condition becomes the new normal, and the interest in personal spiritual Awakening, in any attainments, or in reifying any views wanes.

  • THIRD PORTION OF THE PROGRESSION

    OMNI-INTEGRATION / INTEGRATED TOTALITY

The omni-integrative portion of the progression occurs when core and additional dimensions (see above) integrate more thoroughly, and fundamental conditioning undergoes deeper reprocessing. No facet is left out (dual or non-dual), and authenticity is called for in a more encompassing way. Embracing wholeheartedly all those parts is inherent to this portion of the process.

When Omni-Integration finally matures, there's the realization of Integrated Totality. The first difference from Totality is that, in this phase, there is not a meta-perspective. Subject is no longer separate and different from object. Also, many more layers that compose reality are now integrated with the self that had been deconstructed and reconstructed in the first and second portions of the progression. This leads to pervasive feelings of naturalness, coherence, and harmony. With a more encompassing integration, equanimity becomes or reveals itself to be an inherent feature of reality itself.

This omni-integrated, authentic self, not coincidentally, is coherent with reality itself, where no fundamental separation exists between parts and the whole. Yet, the new self is completely unique, a singular expression of the seamless totality.

For many—especially those who experienced multiple dimensions in the reconstruction portion of the process—reality's omnidimensional nature returns in its harmonized and natural form. Alignment with personal and collective growth increases. This doesn't mean that challenges will not occur or that development has come to an end. The process of integrating more facets and qualification are limitless.

An important caveat: this model is based on a generalized pattern that stemmed from personal and collective observations, as well as from my views and the ways I conceptualize reality. No framework could fit every single progression perfectly or completely represent reality as it is. Also, phases and portions may overlap without clear demarcation. Finally, this outline may evolve as more understanding and clarity emerge over time.

Progression of the Awakening Process

The Role of Associated Dimensions

The associated dimensions may be more or less prevalent throughout the process. Some have access to subtle expanded abilities before awakening, whereas others may develop access at some point in the progression, and others none. It is important to note that these subtle abilities, like all other kinds of abilities, are natural to beings, and can be further developed and deepened if there is interest. The same occurs with crises. For a portion of people, crises are minimal. For others, there are moments when they emerge more strongly. And for others, they are a continuous presence along the way. Managing crises in a more balanced way is another ability or skill that can be developed over time. Similarly, the physical body and world also may become more or less relevant depending on the stage or portion of the process. Your health, relationships, work, and daily life are intrinsic to this unfolding, not separate from it. Once again, developing the ability of relating to all of that harmoniously is a skill that can be learned. Regardless, ideally, all of these dimensions need to be integrated into a coherent whole.

Omni-Integration offers mentorship and guidance in integrating these dimensions, phases, and portions into embodied living, supporting you as you explore and navigate your unique journey.

A Note About “Truth”

It is important to note that all of this progression could be seen from at least two different angles that fit the basic polarity discussed above. From the relative side, there is the view that a process of integration has taken place over time. From the absolute side, reality has never been separate in the first place. It was just a matter of leaving all the filters that obscured that view behind.

I’d like to add that there are other angles that could be taken into consideration. If the primordial is what gives rise to that basic polarity, both of those perspectives are true and not-true at the same time, or, more fundamentally, neither of those perspectives are true nor untrue.

Ultimately, the idea of truth is redefined, understood not merely intellectually but experientially, that many paths lead to the same point and are equally valid.

The key is to learn how to hold them lightly, neither fixating on nor dismissing them completely.

Integration can and does happen with all kinds of Awakening processes. In regards to spiritual Awakening, any core dimension can be integrated or embodied more coherently while the process progresses. Integration happens in all portions of the progression. In the third portion, however, a more comprehensive kind of integration occurs, integrating all the dual and non-dual facets.

Omni-Integration is an integration of all of the other integrations, and a synthesis of everything that makes you, you — of all your dual and non-dual aspects. This, not by chance, matches reality because reality and you are fundamentally not separate and different from each other. In this sense, nothing is left out and everything that makes you unique is equally highlighted in a natural, wholesome way.

In the first and second portions of spiritual Awakening there may be a focus more on the core dimensions depending on how practitioners approach embodiment and work with their own conditionings. The associated dimensions are intrinsic to the process and will eventually require attention and integration.

Approach

More specifically, the omni-integration framework uses the basic polarity notion to find a balance between masculine and feminine approaches. This doesn't have to do with binary gender-based socially constructed roles, but with the basic polarity of reality itself, of yin and yang, existence and non-existence, form and formlessness, and so on.

While many approaches focus on integrating aspects of either the dual or non-dual orientation, or use techniques focused on what could be changed (masculine), Omni-Integration also add a surrender protocol (feminine), so everyone can find the point of equilibrium between these polarities.

Ultimatelly, it is a system that involves a comprehensive synthesis of everything that makes you uniquely you and reality.

Omni-Integration

I bring over 35 years of experience exploring consciousness in all its manifestations, from subtle perception and self-development to awakening and non-duality. My journey has spanned work in both Brazil and the United States as a practitioner, researcher, teacher, and mentor, helping others navigate their own transformative processes.

My early decades in Brazil focused on developing subtle perceptual abilities for self-improvement, ethical development, and service to others. As both a self-researcher and teacher, I led workshops, immersions, and theoretical classes while writing extensively about consciousness development within duality. This foundation prepared me for my later exploration of non-dual Awakening and the integration of these complementary dimensions of practice.

I hold an MA in International Relations with a focus on ethics and human rights, and a PhD in Comparative Politics specializing in democratization processes. Currently, I'm a Visiting Scholar at Penn State University in Contemplative Studies and Co-Principal Investigator on innovative research examining the complete process of spiritual awakening across contemplative traditions. My work has contributed to multiple collaborative projects exploring consciousness, awakening, and transformative development.

As a practitioner who has personally navigated advanced contemplative states and several developmental processes of Awakening, I bring both an analytical mind and lived experience to my work. Drawing on my personal journey, systematic observations, work supporting individuals, and countless conversations with fellow practitioners, I developed the Omni-Integration system — a comprehensive approach to mentoring people through their unique trajectories.

I'm endlessly fascinated by how these processes unfold differently for each person. My approach offers grounded, integrated support for those interested in realizing their natural potential in a way that benefits all.

Endless Possibilities Podcast
with Rastal

July 5, 2024

I have been giving talks and interviews on podcasts about my process and understanding of how spiritual Awakening progresses since 2022.

The first two presentations occurred for the Perfectly Okay (POK) Community (Nov 27, 2022, and on Jan 8, 2023), where I outlined my progression up to Non-Existence (see First Portion of the Process above). Those were followed by three talks with Rastal and Erik Unger. Two on Sep. 3 and 24, 2023, where we discussed new findings, a tentative model for spiritual Awakening, and misconceptions about spiritual Awakening.

The third presentation (Feb 17, 2024) included a summary of what we found after we had informal conversations with almost 40 individuals about their processes. They gave their consent and we publicly acknowledged that the presentation was not supposed to be scientific, but an informal survey of a portion of the community.

The POK community has a policy that these talks cannot be published publicly. You can access them within the POK portal. Access to the community and all its content is free of charge (see POK website).

Besides the influence of those with whom I discussed the process of spiritual Awakening (see acknowledgements), practically all of the terminology—such as Actuality, Potentiality, Non-Existence, Primordial Force, Totality, Basic Polarity, Omnidimensionality (Omni), Post-Omnidimensionality (Post-Omni or simply Post), Omni-Integration and Integrated Totality—as well as most of the model of spiritual Awakening presented here, were developed by me.

Acknowledgements

I could not have done any of this without the support and help of other incredible beings.

I want to thank a series of amazing friends who have been going with with me through “thick and thin.” They are (in no particular oder) Luciana Lavôr, Nara Oliveira, Éverton Santos, Miriam Kunz, Eliana Manfroi, Nina Manfroi, and Cristina Ellwanger.

I am profoundly thankful to Rastal for the partnership during the first long portion of my process when there was no one who seemed to understand me and no model that seemed to match my development. Rastal was and is an essential part of this model. Other crucial individual is Erik Unger. He helped clarify and conceptualize spiritual Awakening for me and others.

I am equally grateful to Patti Levin, co-founder of the POK community, for her support and for always giving me space to share my ideas.

I am deeply thankful for the GAE (Group Awareness Exercise) groups that developed to help people access and deepen into awareness. Two groups were highly influential and fundamental to my development: one group mediated by Lisa Carrillo, and another one sustained by Lura Reed. The second one, in particular, is part of my spiritual family. A profound and unbreakable bond has developed and I consider them more than just friends.

I am also grateful for those 40 individuals (read about it on the media section) who agreed to share their processes informally with us, and for all the questions and challenges to my views during presentations that helped me refine the model of Omni-Integration.

I would like to thank all members of the "Omni" group, created by Pierce Salguero and mediated by him, Sequoia Star, and myself. The discussions were truly enlightening, and I wouldn't have understood how the process progresses even further without that space.

I also want to extend my gratitude to spiritual teachers, thinkers, and leaders who helped with the initial awakening, clarified and refined my process, and supported me at critical moments. Those include Angelo DiLullo, Lesley Skylar, and a diversity of authors and YouTubers.

I am indebted to uncountable individuals who allowed me to support their dual progressions since 1990, when I first became a teacher, and their non-dual processes since 2022. They know who they are. They gave me two of of the most important gifts — the opportunity to grow as a mentor, and the confidence necessary for the Omni-Integration endeavor, integrating both duality and non-duality.

I am also deeply grateful for the group of friends who meet periodically to exchange notes. That relationship, especially with my friends Andrea Russell, Daniel Dufour, and Yvonne Unger. It has been crucial to understanding how Omni-Integration and the third portion of the progression unfold and the challenges that are inherent to that development.

I want to specially thank Pierce Salguero. He is much more than just one of the brightest research partners I've ever had. Pierce is a dear friend with an enormous heart who has supported me at many points of my journey and during challenging moments of my personal life. It is impossible to quantify the number of hours we spent on the phone discussing spiritual Awakening. He has highly influenced me with his Threads Model and his views on the processual and non-linear nature of spiritual Awakening.

I also particularly dedicate Omni-Integration to Brian. He is a teacher who has turned “my” reality inside out and the positive consequences of meeting him in this life are still reverberating through me and throughout the entire cosmos. He showed me, experientially, what integration truly is. In one word — wordless.

Finally, I would like to dedicate Omni-Integration to all those interested in their own growth and development so that we might co-create a more integrated, ethical, and harmonious world.
